Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance Update

About the Project

Henrico County has initiated a project to comprehensively update the County’s Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances.  The County’s goal for the project is to create a modern and user-friendly document that:

  • Makes the standards and regulations, as well as the development  process, easier to understand and navigate
  • Implements the goals and policies adopted in the Vision 2026 Comprehensive Plan
  • Guides development in diverse environments in the County that are experiencing a variety of growth patterns
  • Incorporates modern best practices

The project consists of six tasks that are scheduled over approximately two years (see the Timeline). You are encouraged to use this web site throughout the project to check the status of the project, review work products, and provide feedback (see How to get involved in the update process).

Project Status

The first task of the project (see the About the Project page) is underway. Because the comprehensive Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance update is a significant undertaking, the County has hired a consulting team led by Clarion Associates to work with the community on the ordinance update project.

County staff has been collaborating with the consulting team as the team reviews the current Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances and other relevant documents. On February 14, the consulting team met with the Board of Supervisors and County staff to discuss the project. In March, the consulting team will return to conduct project kick-off meetings with the Planning Commission and the public.
